Dear Readers,

This is not your average post. In fact, I wouldn’t even call it a post per se. I’m not sure what I would call it, but let’s not get wrapped up in semantics.

How about I just begin.

I’ve often touted the idea that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference, and I’ve seen countless examples of this documented on social media, especially since the continuing spread of the New Corona virus Disease (COVID-19).

It’s been both heartwarming and heartbreaking to see so many individuals making positive impacts in their little corners of the world. I’m not talking about the overwhelming donations by billionaires. It’s the simple human acts of kindness that bring tears to my eyes. The soldiers that helped an elderly woman carry groceries home, or the grown son who sat outside his father’s window, cellphone in hand, to have a visit. It’s the little things that YOU are doing that add up to a silver lining amid this time of uncertainty.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that what you bring to the table is needed. YOU are needed! We each have our own gifts and talents. We each bring to the table something unique to share with the world, but what we all seem to have is a desire to help and reach out.

In times of crisis, we can look for the helpers (like Mister Rogers reminds all of us to do) but we can also BE the helpers.

We can’t all donate billions of dollars to important causes like Bill Gates, but we can all make small differences in our own ways – be it through a smile to a stranger in the grocery store, a note of hope on a small scrap of paper, or a small donation to a worthy cause.

My son’s words of hope on our front door.

“Why think small” you might ask?

Because sometimes when we think we cannot do something BIG, we feel like we cannot do anything at all, and that is so far from the truth. Your contributions are needed!

So for the month of April, consider thinking small: small acts of kindness that add up to big impacts. Add posters of encouragement to your windows, smile at the helpers, and give yourself some grace. After all, taking care of yourself helps everyone because you are needed at your best to spread more kindness in the world.

Mother Teresa is quoted as saying, “we cannot all do great things, but we can all do small things with great love.”

Your great love is needed and together we can make a BIG difference through small acts of kindness.

Let’s add up our collective kindness, our pennies and our smiles, and make a bigger impact together. I truly believe that our kindness and our compassion will get us through to the other side.

Thank you so much for considering thinking small this month, and sharing your act of kindness with a world that is currently in need of as much kindness as we can offer, and if you’ve been the recipient of a small act of kindness, please post it in a comment below so we can all be reminded of all the good that’s in this world.

Thank you, and stay safe.
